    Mowata Grocery Store

If Mowata sounds like it's in the middle of nowhere, you're right. However, the beautiful Louisiana scenery and fresh cracklins make the drive worth every mile. Hit the back roads and scenic byways to find this small grocery store located amongst the glistening crawfish ponds and silos. The convenient store offers everything Cajun, and their specialty meats and boudin have even attracted the host of Food Network's Bazaar Foods, Andrew Zimmern. So visit the small community of Mowata and find out for yourself just how bizarre yet tasty a good link of boudin can be.

    Ray's Grocery Plus

For three generations, the original Ray's boudin recipe has been breakfast, lunch, and even a mid-afternoon snack. However, for the family owned and operated business, the original link isn't the only crowd pleaser. Crawfish boudin, pepper jack cheese stuffed boudin balls, and a sweet potato biscuit also prove to be popular with hungry visitors. In fact, they take it even a step further creating a breakfast sandwich by topping their homemade sweet potato biscuit with a fried boudin patty, house made bacon and a drizzle of cane syrup. With a wide selection of craft beer in their coolers, you can even wash it all down with a bottle LA-31 Bière Pâle by Bayou Teche Brewing.

    Savoie's Foods

It's products like Savoie's old-fashioned roux and rice dressing mix that make Cajun life in the kitchen much simpler. Grandma might say that slaving over the stove to make a good homemade roux is the best, but most Louisiana natives will tell you that the stuff in the jar is just good. With just a hand meat grinder, Savoie's made its humble beginnings in 1949 with just a little grocery store, here in St. Landry Parish. However, today Savoie's is one of the most well-known, popular Cajun food companies by locals and nationally. Shop at their local storefront for Cajun cuisine staples like smoked pork sausage, seafood pies, and boudin.

    Sebastien's West End Seafood Market

Sebastien's has a large variety of fresh, wild caught seafood all from local fishermen. Their normal stock includes catfish, garfish, gulf coast shrimp, crabs, snapping turtle, and frog legs. Sounds kind of fishy right? Though they sound a little strange, these ingredients are an important part of our food culture, and are the stars of popular dishes such as gumbo, courtbouillon (Koo-Bee-Yon), sauce Piquante (sôs ˈpē-kənt), and etouffée (āto͞oˈfā). As of 2016, owner Sharon Sebastien has been in the family business for 17 years. In fact, it was her father, Allen, who was the original owner. Apparently, fish mongers run in the family!

Not sure what to do with your fish? No worries! Their friendly staff has no problem offering cooking instructions and recipe ideas.

Read more about Sebastien's at AcadianaTable.com and find a Catfish Head Stew recipe!
