Eat & Drink

See below for a list of cafes or tea salon.

Java Square Cafe Here in Louisiana, locals don't offer guests water or soda. We prefer something warm and full of caffeine, and so we say, "Would you like coffee or tea?" It's as if there's no other option because we know you can't go two steppin' to Cajun music without that little boost of energy.

What better way to experience the culture than through conversation over a cup coffee roasted right here in Acadiana? Find a good cup of joe almost anywhere in the parish, but for a taste of the locally roasted Rêve Coffee, you'll have to visit one of two local cafés. Take a step back in time at the old Parish & Trust Bank, and enjoy lunch in the vault at Java Square Café in Opelousas. Head farther west into Eunice and enjoy Café Mosaic's frozen yogurt and gourmet sandwiches in the former drug store. Want to enjoy Rêve at home? Both cafés offer several varieties and flavors, ground or whole bean. They make excellent gifts or even souvenirs!

    Café Mosaic

Café Mosaic is a locally owned cafe serving locally roasted coffee and homemade pastries in Eunice, Louisiana. Located in an old drugstore and men's store circa 1900's, Café Mosaic offers traditional drip coffee, lattes, espressos, and freddas all made with fresh coffee beans, straight from the Rêve Coffee Lab in Lafayette, LA. Rêve, French for the word dream, comes in several unique blends like Melange de Lafitte which is dressed with subtle hints of cedar chocolate. Buy a fresh bag of beans for yourself or as a gift at Café Mosaic or their sister cafe, Java Square in Opelousas. Also, enjoy gourmet sandwiches for lunch and king cake by the slice when in season.

Café Mosaic is located in downtown Eunice and is within walking distance of area shops and attractions

    The Kitchen Shop

Looking for just a bite to eat, or as we'd call it goûter (to taste)? Try one of Chef Nancy's pastries at the Kitchen Shop in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. Her Cajun sweet dough pies make a delightful snack while you're shopping. Nancy Brewer is a professionally trained pastry chef, but still uses Grandma Doucet's recipes for pies. Nancy also bakes her famous, Gateau Na Na, a pecan tart, whole or by the slice. Her other specialties include buttery scones, decadent chocolate cookies, and savory crawfish pies all made on site in the shop. The shop also has a nice selection of specialty wines, dip mixes, cooking ware, and Louisiana themed gifts.

Click here for her Blackberry Sweet Dough Pie recipe featured in Louisiana Cookin' Magazine.

    The Little Big Cup

Spend time with locals on the banks of Bayou Fuselier at the Little Big Cup in Arnaudville. This fine-dining restaurant feels more like the home of an old friend, one with excellent taste and a scenic view of the bayou, likely due to the owners Kevin Robin and Sanjay Maharaj. The two New Yorkers moved back to Robin's hometown, Arnaudville, and opened the restaurant in 2012. Since then the restaurant has created a buzz on the bayou with dishes like Praline Chicken or the popular Boucherie Brunch Buffet items. Their "A+" reputation isn't solely about the food but the wait staff's kindness and southern hospitality.

The Little Big Cup specializes in Cajun and Creole dishes but Wednesday nights are now reserved for the cuisine of the Caribbean, a tribute to the owner's heritage, Sanjay, who is originally from Trinidad. Each week the restaurant will explore new flavors, spices, and dishes from a different island.
