    Cajun Jam Session

    No permission, no costjust pure enjoyment of Cajun music with the Savoy family. Participate with your own instrument, watch or supply some boudin and cracklins. Marc and Ann Savoy started the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band in 1977 and now their children are making their own marks in Cajun music history including an appearance on HBO's Treme and a record label, Valcour Records.     Prairie Acadian Cultural Center - The Cajun Way

    Local artisans, musicians, and more show off their skills with demonstrations of music, dancing, quilting, and the French language. Practice your Cajun two-step with the assistance of an expert volunteer and music provided by local musicians. Watch scrap fabrics become a beautiful quilt, and come hungry for a foodways presentation by locals and professional chefs.

    La Table Jeunesse

    Students of French wishing to socialize with other area French language students, and just have fun are invited to attend La Table Jeunesse. 

    Whether immersion or second-language, it makes no difference. Here all are practitioners of French, and all French is good French. As meetings progress, participants - you - will have input on games to be played, activities to devise, those things you wish to do - and of course - en français

    Music & Market Fall Series

    Come enjoy the best in local music and fresh home-grown produce at Music & Market in historic Opelousas. In addition to the musical entertainment, Music & Market will spotlight a vegetable and/or agriculture commodity. Samples will be available.     Du Café et de la discution, tout en français!—Le café et la conversation décontractée en français cadien. Aide à préserver le patrimoine français de la Louisiane dans notre coin du sud-ouest de la Louisiane. Apprendre, pratiquer et améliorer vos compétences Cajun français. Les participants se rassemblent souvent autour de la table et échanger des histoires cohérentes avec le thème choisi de la journée. Utilisation du français encourage, bien sûr, cependant les orateurs français partagent leurs histoires en anglais aussi, pour que tous le long de la conversation tous le monde puisse suivre.     Tour de la Riviere Rouge 275 III

    Tour de la Rivière Rouge is a is a wild and woolly 275-mile race for paddlers from Shreveport to Port Barre via the Red River, Atchafalaya River and Bayou Courtableau. To be recognized as successfully completing the race, teams must finish within 100 hours, putting them in Port Barre by 6 p.m. on the day before the start of Tour du Teche. This is an adventure race, designed to tax the most accomplished long-distance racers. There are five dams on the Red, which paddlers may portage around or lock through at their discretion. There are no checkpoints and no mandatory stops. Both Tour de la Rivière Rouge and Tour du Teche are a part of the 410 de Louisiane, which is a combination of the two races, running from Shreveport to Berwick. 

    This event is coordinated by Tour du Teche, Inc., a non-profit organization that was organized to promote outdoor recreation along the Bayou Teche Corridor through St. Landry, St. Martin, Iberia and St. Mary parishes.

    410 de Louisiane III

    410 de Louisiane is a combination of two races, creating one large race which runs all the way from Shreveport to Berwick. Together, Tour de la Rivière Rouge and Tour du Teche 135 create a unique event that will attract the attention of ecotourists around the world, foster low-impact outdoor recreation, and give Louisianans a better appreciation for the great natural beauty and riverine heritage of the state.

    The race begins at Stoner Avenue Recreational Area Boat Launch in Shreveport and ends at the Red Lighthouse on the Atchafalaya River in Berwick, La. Click here for more details.
