34th Annual World Championship Crawfish Étouffée Cook Off

This event features professional and amateur cooks vying for the title of "World Champion." This has got to be one of the best ways to taste crawfish in Louisiana. Teams compete to see who can cook the best crawfish etouffee in three categories: Amateur, Professional and Club/Organization. Once the judges have their samples from the booths, the public can buy the crawfish etouffee directly from the participants. Vote for the People's Choice Award!

Also, enjoy live Cajun and zydeco music (starting at 10AM), plenty of dancing and, of course, tons of etouffee. There will also be arts and crafts, a petting zoo, pony rides, fun jumps, and more fun activities for the whole family! World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cook-off is held the last Sunday in March every year, except when it conflicts with Easter.

    Drum Circle at NUNU

For a spiritual and social experience, participate in a community drum circle at NUNU Arts & Cultural Collective in Arnaudville. Drum circles were made popular by counterculture groups in the 60's and 70's as means of expression. Today a community drum circle is still a social gathering where the music completely improvised and open to self-expression. The drum circle at NUNU is open to all ages, 10 and up. You need only a percussion instrument and a little creativity. The sessions are one hour, and anyone under the age of 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. The group leader is Clare Hernandez, and she invites all levels of drummers to join in. Some instruments will be provided.

23rd Annual Celebration of Herbs & Gardens

The Sunset Garden Club has continued to impress garden enthusiasts with a wide selection of plants and herbs for over twenty years through the Annual Celebration of Herbs & Gardens. The event is a great opportunity to step outside with your kids, friends, or even spend an afternoon with Mom and Dad. Vendors specialize in a variety of plants and can answer your questions about growing and cultivation. These include hibiscus, grasses, fruit trees, bromeliads, orchids, ferns, succulents, roses, and more. Master Gardeners are also on site and will present informative presentations with time for a Q&A.

Local crafts, handmade yard art, and herbal bath and body products can also be found on the grounds for sale. First-timers should know that plants go fast! The saying is true; the early bird gets the worm. You may also want to bring a wagon to store plants and items while you shop.

The celebration isn't just for adults! The Kid's Corner features fun jumps, face-painting, and other engaging activities. Kids can also visit the fairy garden or meet some of the bee-keepers or agricultural vendors on site.

The Celebration of Herbs and Gardens is held the first Saturday in May every year in Sunset, Louisiana. Funds raised by this annual festival are used for town beautification projects facilitated by the Sunset Garden Club.
