Opelousas Sound Places Christmas Series Opelousas Main Street is excited to welcome back WindSync, a Houston-based chamber quintet, for a final visit of the year-long program, Sound Places. WinSync will return to Opelousas for three days of community activities and events filled with holiday sounds. During their stay, WindSync will lead interactive school sessions with area youth; they will also collaborate with residents from Prompt Succor Nursing Home and students from JS Clark Leadership Academy for a bell ringing performance. The quintet will give a pop-up performance at the 15th Annual Lighting of the Village and at the Opelousas Public Library! This is all part of Sound Places, a national placemaking project.
From November 30 – December 2, residents can enjoy multiple interactive events that incorporate music, and community.
Thursday, Nov. 30 , residents are invited to gather for Christmas Caroling in the Downtown Historic District with Windsync. Visitors can join in on the caroling or just enjoy the sounds of the Christmas music. Also, attendees are welcomed to Back in Time following the Christmas Caroling for refreshments. This great evening of caroling takes place at from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. followed by refreshments at Back in Time, 123 W. Landry Street.
Friday, Dec. 1 features a Pop-up Performance at the Lighting of the Village with WindSync, who will be joined by students from JS Clark Leadership Academy. WindSync plays at 5:30 p.m. The Lighting of the Village is from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Le Vieux Village, 828 E. Landry St.
Saturday, Dec. 2 Merry Melodies at the Opelousas Public Library includes a concert by WindSync at the Opelousas Public Library. The quintet will also collaborate with the bell ringers from JS Clark Leadership Academy and Prompt Succor Nursing Home, followed by a farewell celebration for WindSync at 10 a.m. at the Opelousas Public Library, 212 E. Grolee Street.

Sound Places is a creative placemaking program centered on the performing arts. This pilot program, developed by Chamber Music America (CMA), the Louisiana Division of the Arts (LDOA), and Project for Public Spaces (PPS), with support from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), along with the WindSync ensemble, strives to engage in meaningful ways with the civic fabric of Louisiana’s Cultural Districts.
