    6th Annual Sweet Dough Pie Festival

    This event celebrates the unique history of historic Grand Coteau and a traditional treat called, sweet dough pie. Every year pastry chefs and home cooks vie for the title in the sweet dough pie contest. A large variety of pies will also be available for purchase including fig, custard, lemon, blackberry, and other local, seasonal ingredients. Browse through more than 70 vendors of arts, handmade items, flowers and herbs, custom furniture, indoor and outdoor decor, while enjoying local cuisine and live music.  

    Don't miss this opportunity to explore the gorgeous grounds at the Church or St. Charles Borromeo. Historical reenactments and trolley tours of St. Charles Cemetery where fifteen graves of historic citizens will take place throughout the day. Meet Dr. Millard, who treated, Mary Wilson, the beneficiary of the only miracle recognized by the Catholic Church in the United States. Also, take the trolley car for a narrated town tour featuring St. Charles Church and the cemetery, St. Ignatius School, the St. Peter Claver complex, and the Schools of the Sacred Heart.

    3rd Annual Experience Louisiana Festival

    You’re in for a treat! The mission of the festival is to celebrate and feature all that is great about the State of Louisiana. Year by year the content will change, but the model remains the same. The festival’s major components include Folklife Village, Main Stage, Food Village, Musician’s Village, Walk-Through Louisiana, Craft Village, Artist’s Village, Film Village, Cooking Demos by Louisiana Chefs, Coushatta Village, Narrative Stages, Athletic Events, Antique & Classic Car Show and more!

    Several live demonstrations take place throughout the weekend including an old time boucherie or hog butchering, a courir de Mardi Gras (Mardi Gras run), folklife traditions such as instrument making or basket weaving, and Cajun and Creole cooking demonstrations by professional chefs. 

    This year the festival's theme is agriculture, an appropriate topic for area abundant with generational farms. In fact, many are chefs from across Acadiana (nine parishes) get an assortment of fresh cuts of beef, pork, and poultry at the local slaughter house and superette in Eunice. The festival will celebrate the industry with a dried crops exhibit, a visit from Smoky the Bear, demo by the Louisiana Dutch Oven Society, a game called Forestry Squares, and several other outdoor activities.

    Fall Ramble & Tour of Homes

    The steamboat town of Washington will be the host for the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation's next Fall Ramble. The group organizes two Rambles a year in different historic Louisiana towns to observe preservation efforts and explore other parts of the state. The public will also be invited to the Washington Ramble, where guests will have an opportunity to tour homes that are typically not open to the public, including The Eagle Hotel, St. Mark's Church, The Crawford House, and more.     An Acadian style cottage owned by a steamboat captain.

    Old Fashioned Fais-do-do Barn Dances

    Lakeview Park & Beach is known to throw an amazing party whether it be Mardi Gras, Black Pot Camp, one of their Saturday night Old Fashioned Fais Do-Do barn dances. This rustic barn is the perfect setting foot-stompin', two-steppin' Cajun dancing and music. Acadian’s best performers are known to frequent the barn stage, including Grammy-nominated band, Bonsoir Catin. So Come out and pass a good time with the locals. During summer months also enjoy live music on the beach. 

    Campers receive four free armbands for the beach and two free tickets to the Barn dance. Non-campers can purchase a day pass armband for $10 on weekends, $7 on weekdays, and $5 on Tuesdays that allows you access to the beach, beach playground, fishing lake, and any beach entertainment.

    Prairie Acadian Cultural Center - The Cajun Way

    Local artisans, musicians, and more show off their skills with demonstrations of music, dancing, quilting, and the French language. Practice your Cajun two-step with the assistance of an expert volunteer and music provided by local musicians.     La Table Jeunesse

    Students of French wishing to socialize with other area French language students, and just have fun are invited to attend La Table Jeunesse. 

    Whether immersion or second-language, it makes no difference. Here all are practitioners of French, and all French is good French. As meetings progress, participants - you - will have input on games to be played, activities to devise, those things you wish to do - and of course - en français

    Ages 7-17 invited. La Table Jeunesse will be conducted in age appropriate groupings. Students must be accompanied by an adult.
