The Lighting of the Village
December 6 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Every year, Le Vieux Village Heritage Park is set aglow with lights and enough holiday cheer for all. The Lighting of the Village begins with an upbeat melody of rhythm by members of the JS Clark Leadership Academy Choir, followed by the official “pulling of the switch,” which will illuminate thousands of lights in the village.
This event is family friendly and offers a variety of activities for children including a petting zoo, choir music, an obstacle course fun jump, a cupcake decorating station, and an ornament making station. Kids will be able to take their ornaments home and enjoy their specially made cupcake. Special guests for this event have included Frosty the Snowman, Queen Elsa, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Elmo, and “balloon man”, Rick Hessler. The star of the event, of course, is Santa Clause. Kids will get the opportunity to meet Santa and pose for a photo opportunity.
Le Vieux Village Heritage Park is a historic village in Opelousas, Louisiana. The village is home to the famous Venus House, The Louisiana Orphan Train Museum, and other historic structures from in and around Opelousas. It is also the location of the Opelousas Visitor Information Center.
The Village stays lit through January 1, 2020 for the public to enjoy.
