On December 6th head to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church & School in Lebeau, Louisiana for a historic unveiling. The first historic marker in Northern St. Landry Parish will be revealed detailing the history of the church and surrounding area. At the event, mass will be held at 10am with the actual unveiling happening at 11am. Everyone is invited to attend the event and the presentation that follows which will detail the history of the area.

Since 1897, the Josephites have served Lebeau and the surrounding areas. The church that stands there now was built in 1927 after the previous one was destroyed in the great flood. In 1939 they added a high school which was the first one for Black people in the area. Zydeco legend, Rockin’ Sidney Simien, was a graduate of that school and is buried in the cemetery on the church grounds.
