John Warner Smith at the Museum
John Warner Smith will give a presentation on new developments at Shadows-on-the-Teche in New Iberia at the Opelousas Museum & Interpretive Center on December 6th. Doors open at 5pm and the presentation starts at 6pm. The former Poet Laureate will also share his poetry.
Stories of the human experience are intertwined in John Warner Smith’s Poetry. His appreciation for deep history and Louisiana narratives also informs his work as director of Shadows-on-the-Teche. Smith strives to transform this historic sight to reflect all aspects of American History. Historical tours at the Teche interpret the lives of the enslaved individuals along with those of the family that owned the plantation. On Dec. 6, be part of this special evening when poetry, stories and history merge.
At the event, MACA student Elijah Ford will also read his award-winning poem.
