Whiteville Historic Schoolhouse

The Whiteville Schoolhouse was constructed in 1911. This schoolhouse building is one of only a few of its kind remaining in Louisiana and you can tour it at Le Vieux Village Heritage Park in Opelousas, Louisiana. You can also rent the schoolhouse for meetings and private events.

The park is a village featuring historic structures from Opelousas, such as a doctor’s office from the 1890’s and the Mary Jane Train Engine. Tours are available during the parks hours of operation. Yambilee Buidling

The Yambilee Building in Opelousas, Louisiana has been the host of family fun for many years. Multiple zydeco and Cajun musicians have performed on the Yambilee stage. The auditorium is also an excellent venue for cook-offs, festivals, weddings, reunions, and other special events. The Yambilee ag-arena can also be used for outdoor events and trail rides.

Sunset Community Center

The Sunset Community Center offers a clean, modern space for small social events and meetings. The venue can accommodate up to 125 guests seated, 265 seated with chairs, and at least 377 guests standing. Amenities include a dressing area and kitchen. Historic St. John’s Episcopal Church

St. John’s Church was built in 1874 as an Episcopal church. Today, it still stands in Washington and is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Washington Garden Club acquired the property and did a beautiful and historically accurate restoration. St. John’s is still ornate with the original pews, bell tower, and even updated with period lighting. The site was even used for the filing of The Free State of Jones starring Matthew McConaughey.

Brides looking for a venue with a vintage feel can tie the knot at St. John’s. Amenities include a dressing area, a stage, and a full kitchen. The church can also be rented for social and other private functions.

Cypress Grove

Cypress Grove in Eunice is a charming wedding venue that features a stunning new open-air chapel. With 14-foot stained glass windows and a functioning bell tower that houses a restored bell from the 1800s, newlyweds can take part in the unique tradition of ringing the bell upon exiting the ceremony allowing the chimes to blow the crowd away and leave a lasting memory.

The reception space itself is a historic general store that was built in 1886 and moved to the property in the ’90s. The store is historically known as the Chapelle Store, one of the last attempted robberies of Bonnie & Clyde in 1934.

Cypress Grove has been in operation for over 8 years with 350+ weddings that have taken place onsite. They specialize in more intimate weddings with crowds of less than 150 guests. Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant

Dine with family, friends, or colleagues at the last of the old steamboat warehouses on Bayou Courtableau. The Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant is a historic treasure in the town of Washington. This brick building was built in the 1820’s and restored in 1977. You can dine there Tuesday through Sunday and even host a private event upstairs. Their private dining area is a lovely space for parties, showers, rehearsal dinners, or a business meeting.
