Festival of Words
November 1 @ 7:00 pm - November 2 @ 5:00 pm
Acadiana’s literary festival is back this year with more talented poets and authors! The Festival of Words is a free event that celebrates the written and spoken word through several literary activities. You can participate in open mics and literary workshops or watch other public readings and performances. Featured artists work closely with students from local schools in the workshops and for “drive-by-poetry.” You can also catch student performances on the street, in local shops, and on stage for a creative writing contest on Saturday.
This year includes nationally recognized authors: Novelist Yuri Hererra, Spoken Word Poet Donney Rose, and Poet Tyler Robert Sheldon. Festival events include: creative writing workshops in community centers and public schools, a community stage for open mics, “Drive-by Poetry” in grocery stores, boutiques and restaurants–and many opportunities for people to interact with featured authors.
This event takes place in multiple venues in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. Other literary events hosted by The Festival of Words Cultural Arts Collective take place throughout the year. In fact, this group meets weekly at Chicory’s Coffee & Café for an open mic. Sometimes the collective hosts guest artists including musicians, poets, authors, and educational speakers.
