Sauce Picante Cook-Off

The Sauce Picante Cook-Off taking place at Lakeview Park & Beach in Eunice is an annual cooking event that you won’t want to miss. Sauce Picante is a traditional Creole and Cajun dish that includes a spicy sauce typically with a tomato base all over rice. At this event, area chefs will compete with their best renditions of this iconic dish. Samples will be available for guests to taste and vote on. Cameron Fontenot & the Rhythm Aces will play from 2pm-4pm and Dustin Sonnier & the Wanted is performing in the evening at 8pm.

It’s $15 to enter a dish and $10 for guests to get a wristband and sample all the tasty food.

Le Grand Hoorah

Le Grand Hoorah returns to Lakeview Park in  Eunice, Louisiana the last weekend in September. The lineup of bands features some of the hottest acts from around the region. Enjoy Cajun cuisine, including a boucherie, plus French language experiences, dancing, special events, outdoor fun, and optional camping.

“Our festival is about creating and fostering relationships focused on preserving the music, food, language and folk arts of the people of Acadiana,” explained Gilbert “Winky” Aucoin, President of the event’s nonprofit.

The music schedule includes a kickoff party Friday at 8pm with live music. Then on Saturday, music kicks off at 1pm and continues till 8:45 pm. The Hoorah also hosts an authentic Cajun jam 11am – 12:30pm.

Aside from the boucherie and food booths, Saturday’s special events include Opening Ceremonies at noon, French immersion student performances and a French Invocation by Father Jason Vidrine. Attendees can also return Sunday morning for a Catholic French Mass at 9:30 am with Father Kenan Brown.

Le Grand Hoorah is known for preserving and supporting its region’s roots. As part of the nonprofit’s mission to support musical and cultural organizations, proceeds each year are in part donated to various organizations including ACA’s (Acadiana Center for the Arts) Courtney Granger Memorial Award, the Christopher Stafford Memorial Foundation Fund, and Love of People this year.

Catch Fish Cook-Off

Who thinks they can become the Catch Fish King? Come cook your best catfish recipe (cooked any way you’d like) and join this fishing tournament at Riverview RV Resort in Krotz Springs on June 14.

Registration for the fishing tournament is $25 per person. Fishing lasts from June 14 at 7am with a final weigh in on June 15 at 5pm. There should be no more than 3 people per team. Weigh-in is on June 17 at 10am. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will win a cash prize and there’s a trophy for the biggest catch.

The cook-off is on June 15th and is $40 per team. Set up and registration is from 8am-10am. Taster bracelets are $5 and allow you to sample each entry. Judging starts at 2:30pm.

Those who aspire to be the Catch Fish King must place in both categories.

Louisiana Farm Concert

On October 29th, head to La Casetta at the Farm in Melville, Louisiana for an unforgettable concert. Check out James McCann, Taylor McCann, and Northbound Drifters as they perform on the sprawling and secluded grounds of the hunting lodge turned event venue.

Opt in for the 1 hour tour to see their sugarcane, cattle, and grain operations from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm. Immediately following will be the concert that’ll continue until 7:30 pm.

Heartland Tours’ is hosting this event as part of their Louisiana Farm Tour this fall. If you don’t want the full three-night tour of the agriculture industry in Louisiana, you can still have fun by hopping in at La Casetta on Saturday for the concert for only $30 per ticket. The Bold and Beautiful Meet & Greet

On May 28th, the cast members of “The Bold and Beautiful” make their way to The Little Big Cup in Arnaudville. Join them for an evening of Cajun hospitality to raise money for the Cancer Support Community. Tickets come with soft drinks and access to The Little Big Cup’s famous buffet.

Rayo Brothers at NUNU’s

Daniel and Jesse Reaux began performing as the Rayo Brothers in their hometown of Lafayette Louisiana. According to Offbeat Magazine, the brothers present “honest and insightful songwriting” against a backdrop of “impassioned folk-rock and modern alt-country with majestic, sweeping arrangements”. Featuring sibling harmonies and a variety of instrumentation, they put on a rollicking show that flows from raucous foot-stompers to intimate ballads to everywhere in between.

The Rayo Brothers will reunite for a night at NUNU Arts & Culture Collective on Friday night, April 26. The show starts at 7:30pm. Admission is $20.

Soirée Royale

For over 20 years, the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce has hosted a successful, highly anticipated, and competitive culinary event, Soiree Royale. This event invites chefs from throughout Acadiana to compete for 1st place in seven categories including appetizer, chocolate, dessert, meat, seafood, soup, and yam. Participants get to sample their signature dishes and cast their vote for People’s Choice.

The competition is open to only certified, licensed, and insured, chefs/restaurants and caterers. This annual event serves as a fundraiser for the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce and provides funding for the Chamber’s college scholarship program. The competition will take place in Opelousas, Louisiana at the Yambilee Building.

Taster’s Choice

You get to be the judge at the Annual Taster’s Choice culinary event in Eunice, Louisiana. This event takes place the Wednesday before Fat Tuesday. It’s the perfect opportunity to indulge in good Cajun food before Lent begins. Every year, nearly 25 chefs fascinate taste buds, while Geno Delafose & French Rockin Boogie keeps everyone entertained with zydeco music. Enjoy drinks at the cash bar and walk away with some big-ticket items from the silent and live auctions.

A panel of judges and chefs will select winners in amateur and professional categories. A People’s Choice award will be voted on by attendees. Proceeds benefit the Eunice Community Health Center Clinic, which provides free and at-cost medical care for the working uninsured and under-insured people of the surrounding areas.
