Whitetails Sports Bar and Grill continues to preserve and celebrate the food, music, and culture found in the small towns along the bayous of south Louisiana. Looking for just a bite to eat, or as we’d call it goûter (to taste)? Try one of Chef Nancy’s pastries at the Kitchen Shop in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. Her Cajun sweet dough pies make a delightful snack while you’re shopping. Nancy Brewer is a professionally trained pastry chef, but still uses Grandma Doucet’s recipes for pies. Nancy also bakes her specialty, gateau na-na, which is a pecan tart sold whole or by the slice. Her other specialties include buttery scones and decadent chocolate cookies, all made on site in the shop. The shop also has a nice selection of specialty wines, dip mixes, cooking ware, and Louisiana themed gifts. Click here for her Blackberry Sweet Dough Pie recipe featured in Louisiana Cookin’ Magazine.

Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant

2022-04-28T18:27:42-05:00

The Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant provides a truly unique dining experience in Washington, Louisiana, the third oldest establishment in the state. This historic, bousillage structure, located in the heart of the old steamboat port, offers guests a step back in time. In fact, it is the last of the old steamboat warehouses still standing on Bayou Courtableau. The building was constructed in the 1820s and originally stored cotton before it was restored in 1977 as a fine-dining restaurant. Today, a massive collection of antiques are on display and exposed brick walls set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. Try Chef Jason Huguet’s signature dishes such as Steak Lafitte or the soft shell crabs. Click here for the Steamboat Gang Plank Ribeye and Crawfish Étouffée Recipe feature on LouisianaTravel.com.

The building’s rich history and rumors of paranormal activity have attracted tourists, ghosts hunters, bloggers, and writers. Restaurant staff will tell you fascinating stories about creepy encounters, enough to give you the frissons (chills)! Even formal investigations have even taken place, but what’s really spooky is how good the food is! The owner-chef, Jason Huguet, has received multiple awards and gold medals for menu items such as Eggplant Belle RoseChicken and Sausage Gumbo, and Sidesaddle Angels.
