Chicorys at the Palace

2024-06-24T14:41:31-05:00

Chicory’s will be closing on June 30th, 2024.

On an early morning in downtown Opelousas, you’ll find the locals sipping coffee or reading the paper at what used to be the old Palace Café. In 1927 Greek immigrants, Mama and Papa Doucas, opened what was then known as The Palace Sandwich Shop. They specialized in Creole and Cajun dishes, such as their famous crawfish bisque and fried chicken salad. The café remained a historical gem for the city until it closed in 2019.

Chicorys Coffee & Café owners, Wesley Guidroz and Patricia Lewis, are breathing new life into the historic café. They outgrew their Grand Coteau location and are reopening as Chicorys at the Palace. They are bringing their wide selection of specialty coffees, smoothies, and breakfast and lunch items, as well as their bookish signature style, while keeping true to the history of the Palace.

Ruby’s Cafe

For over 30 years, Ruby’s Café has kept locals coming back for more in downtown Eunice, Louisiana. By now, locals know the lunch menu by heart and there’s a reason why it hasn’t changed in the last three decades – because the recipes are tried and true. Every Monday, baked chicken is served. Tuesdays, the restaurant fries up thick, juicy pork chops. Wednesday, they prepare a Louisiana specialty called Cajun smoked ponce. Thursday is pork ribs, and Friday, they serve their famous crawfish étouffée over fried eggplant. More options are available on the menu, but these are the old favorites everyone looks forward to each week. The restaurant is also open for breakfast, so drop in for their homemade biscuits and jelly.
