Lundi Gras Live at Toby’s

The Imperial St. Landry Mardi Gras Association presents Lundi Gras Live at Toby’s Downtown located in the Beau’s Garage building in Downtown Opelousas. Kylie Frey, a local musician with national acclaim who records out of Nashville, will perform at the restaurant and bar on the Monday before Mardi Gras. This Lundi Gras celebration kicks off the season’s festivities for the City of Opelousas.

This event is open to people of all ages. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

Circus on Ice Magic Tour

Come and have a great time with your family at the Circus on Ice at the Yambilee Building in Opelousas. Experience their frozen adventure with all your favorite characters, amazing circus acts, and awesome ice skaters.

At intermission time, there will be a meet and greet where you’ll be able to take pictures with the performers. Doors open one hour before each show, make sure to come early to get the best seats.

Tickets are $15 for kids and $25 for adults.

La Rivière Mardi Gras Chicken Run and Parade

Head to Krotz Springs, Louisiana for the second La Rivière Mardi Gras Chicken Run and Parade taking place right along the Atchafalaya River at Riverview RV Park & Resort.

The parade itself departs at 9am from Riverview RV Park & Resort and heads North on Hwy 105 until it enters the town of Krotz Springs and travels through the town until heading back to Riverview. There will be an intermission at Nall Park with boudin and a bowl of gumbo available at the end. Women and children can participate in the parade but will have a separate chicken chase once the Mardi Gras Run returns to Riverview.

This event is cash only. General Admission is $10 and includes live music once the parade returns. If you’d like to participate in the trail ride it’s $20 and $20 for the chicken run.

Step Rideau & the Zydeco Outlaws return to Lebeau, Louisiana for a New Year’s Eve Zydeco Dance. You can catch him and DJ Lil Jack at the Immaculate Conception Hall where the Lebeau Zydeco Festival takes place in the summer.

The “Enjoy the Music” Pre-New year’s Eve Party is an epic concert taking place in Opelousas, Louisiana on December 30th at 8pm that continues into the next day ending at 1am. Enjoy live bands, singers, and more at the Charming Event Center located at 515 W. Martin Luther King Dr. in Opelousas. Featuring performances by artists, music producers, and radio personalities, McKayovee, Jamster Ev, Je, LTN-Ant & LTN Teezy, and NWojak with more artists performing on the day.

Presale tickets are $15 for general admission and $20 for VIP. At the door, tickets will be $20 for general admission and $30 for VIP.

Drawn to Grow Exhibit Reception

Join us at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center at Exit 23 right off of I-49 to view Kelli Foret Richard’s most recent work, Drawn to Grow. This exhibit of 57 illustrations is a statement on the 57 years left of farming the region has until it reaches desertification. The exhibit is both emphasizes the importance of agriculture to Louisiana and a call to action for better farming practices. Hear from the artist herself at the reception on Saturday, November 5 from 1pm-4pm at the visitor center right outside of Opelousas.

Washington Christmas Concert

Get a little Christmas cheer from the Opelousas Queen of Angels Choir. They’ll be performing traditional Christmas music in Washington, Louisiana at St. John Episcopal’s Church on the first Saturday in December at 6pm. Admission is free. You will not want to miss out on this one-of-a-kind event.

Teddy’s Uptown is now Club Suga! On October 22, Mr. Black is hosting the Creole Swing Out Party featuring the Swing Kings. See a mixture of hip hop, southern soul, and rap artists including RussG Da Ryder, Rich Wright (soul), Dolce (hip hop), YV Da Prince (hiphop/southern soul rap) as they perform live in Opelousas.

Lighting of the Nativity

The holiday season is upon us, and Opelousas Main Street presents a cherished tradition that has been lighting up downtown for over seven decades. On Saturday, the heart of downtown Opelousas, Louisiana will come alive with festive cheer at the Lighting of the Nativity on the Courthouse Square.

The event is scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. with the official unveiling of the historic nativity scene to take place at dusk. A variety of activities are planned for the event which is presented by Opelousas Main Street, Inc. Santa will be onsite for holiday photos and there will also be train rides, a vendor market set up along Court Street featuring specialty items, art and food, live music entertainment from Our Lady Queen of Angels Choir and a special youth jam session hosted by Louisiana Folk Roots Kids Camp alumni and friends. Nearby families can meet The Grinch inside Sophisticated Look La’ Bellevue on Bellevue Street.

November 29th is also Small Business Saturday, a day to enjoy a delicious lunch and shop for unique gifts, while supporting local small businesses and artists in the area.

This year marks the 71st anniversary of the historic Nativity Scene. The nativity scene at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse Square began in the 1940s. In 1953, a special building was made for the nativity. On Sun., Dec. 6, 1953, the nativity scene on the St. Landry Parish Courthouse Square was unveiled at a special ceremony where Mabel Cools was recognized for soliciting donations used to purchase the nativity figures. Sidney Sandoz was recognized as chairman of the building committee. Robert Dejean served as Master of Ceremonies. After the unveiling, the downtown Christmas lights were turned on. Fête de Saint-Luc

Celebrate at Saint-Luc French Immersion School in Arnaudville, Louisiana. This former hospital turned educational and cultural organization that seeks to revive and sustain the French language tradition in Louisiana. They are hosting a celebration and learning experience on October 9th from 1:30pm to 6pm with great food, music, and plenty of art vendors and craftsmen.

There will be a ton to eat and drink including plate lunches from Pepper’s homestyle catering, croissants, cookies, and pastries from Paradiso Cake, fruit and veggie drinks from Jolly Moon, and sandwiches from Bib Belly Sandwiches.

Enjoy informational demos and vendors including spinning arts, cotton products, art displays, basketweaving, chair caning, writing, and more. There will even be live music by La Patente, a traditional band out of New Brunswick, Canada, and the Potluck Band.
